Scotland: Additional SDR changes from 1 November 2025

The latest remuneration changes in Scotland

The Scottish Government has responded to our calls by bringing forward a number of amendments to the Statement of Dental Remuneration (SDR).

Following feedback from the Scottish Dental Practice Committee, the following amendments have been made:

  • Item 1-(c), the list of unscheduled assessment and/or treatment of acute conditions has been updated, to include additional potential reasons for the appointment. This list now includes sensitivity, temporary filling/dressing, pulpitis/extirpation, periapical abscess, dry socket and TMJ/TMJD
  • Item 2-(b) has been updated to reflect changes to the Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme, “Prevention and management of Dental caries in Children”, regarding which teeth may benefit from the application of fissure sealants. Fissure sealants may now also be applied to unfilled deciduous molar teeth and upper permanent lateral incisors within two years of their eruption.

There is further information available in letter PCA(D)(2025)4 and Amendment No.168 to the SDR, 2 October 2025, which are available on the Statement of Dental Remuneration page for NHS Scotland. You can also find further information about payment reform in Scotland on our information hub.

These changes will be effective from 1 November 2025.
