Scotland: The end of 9:1 contracts for consultants

A move towards job plans that are more sustainable and tailored.

A recently published Director’s Letter outlines updated guidance to NHS Employers in Scotland on aspects of the job planning processes for relevant medical and dental staff.

It states that consultant posts should no longer be advertised at a 9:1 direct clinical care (DCC): supporting professional activities (SPA) split.

Some of the guidance also applies to specialty and specialist doctors and dentists in addition to consultant grade staff.

Those who are currently on 9:1 DCC:SPA arrangements should consider urgently seeking an interim job plan review with their employer.
