The First Minister for Wales has previously described the consultation as the biggest response to a consultation in the history of devolution. We understand over 6,000 individuals and organisations took part. Our thanks to nearly 500 dentists and dental professionals who took part. Your voices must be heard.
We have been pressing for changes to a wide range of elements of the reform package, including proposals to shift “green” patients from practice lists to a centralised database where they would be allocated to different practices on a first come first served basis. This would undermine continuity of care and spell the end of the ‘family dentist’, with parents and children at risk of being split up and allocated to different providers.
"This consultation has generated among the largest response of any in the history of devolution," says Russell Gidney, Chair of our Welsh General Dental Practice Committee.
"It’s easy to understand why. NHS dentistry has ceased to exist for thousands of families across Wales, and they want it to have a future.
"The Welsh Government must show they responded to the weight of opinion, from both the public and this profession.
"That they have been willing to listen on material risks to the future of NHS dentistry in Wales."
