New Associates Group Chair elected: Sarah Canavan2 January 2020
has been elected as the new Chair of the General Dental Practice Committee’s Associates Group, following George Wright’s decision to step down from the Group.
Sarah graduated as a dentist in 1995 and has worked in a variety of roles in dentistry, including community dentistry and has spent the last 10 years as an associate in mixed practices in Northamptonshire. She has an MSc in Pain Management, and is Vice-Chair of the Northants Local Dental Committee.
The Associates Group
is a working group of the General Dental Practice Committee and aims to give a voice to the wide range of associates doing varied roles across the UK, at all stages of their careers.
On being elected, Sarah said:
“I’m delighted to be elected Chair of this important representative group at the BDA. I’m very concerned about the direction dentistry is going in, and the growing challenges facing all our associate dentists today whether younger or older.
"We know that career structures in our profession are changing rapidly, and as an organisation, the BDA is keen to protect dentists' interests and ensure they have fulfilling and viable careers. Our group has a great range of associates, both younger and more established in their careers, and their expertise will be invaluable in helping us take our agenda forward."
