No change to DFT assessment dates this year
20 March 2017
There will be no changes to the assessment dates for dental foundation training (DFT) this year, COPDEND has confirmed.
The confirmation follows suggestions that the assessment date be moved from the November of the final year of BDS to the summer, after BDS final results. However after strong representations from the BDA, COPDEND has agreed to carry out a formal consultation on the proposals and clarified that no changes will take place for the round of applications for 2018 places.
Assessments will therefore take place as expected this November.
The decision by COPDEND to delay any changes to the assessment timetable comes after dental students via the BDA Students Committee, as well as some dental schools and individuals involved with the training expressed reservations about the proposed changes.
The BDA will be meeting with COPDEND to discuss this and other DFT issues in the near future, and will be submitting a formal response to the COPDEND consultation following its publication.
