Permanent Secretary responds to BDA calls for more timely pay uplifts
3 September 2019
The Permanent Secretary of the Department of Health, Richard Pengelly, has responded to BDA Northern Ireland's letter calling for the timely implementation of the DDRB’s recommended 2.5% net of expenses uplift for GDPs and salaried dentists in 2019/20.
In his response, the Permanent Secretary has assured us that he will review the DDRB 2019 recommendation in line with the forthcoming Northern Ireland Public Sector Pay Policy 2019/20 – which is usually published in November.
He expressed the hope that the delays experienced with the 2018/19 uplift would be reduced.
This issue will be further discussed with Pengelly when the Chairs of BDA Northern Ireland's three main committees – the Northern Ireland Council, the Northern Ireland Dental Practice Committee and the Northern Ireland Salaried Dentists Committee – meet him on Thursday 5 September.
Other issues to be discussed at that meeting include:
Oral Health Policy & Prevention
Community Dental Service Workforce
Sustainability of General Dental Services/Health Service Dentistry
BDA Northern Ireland
