The morning plenary session saw Chris Louca, Director of CPD at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute, welcome a panel of leading figures in dentistry including Nairn Wilson, President of the BDA, Sara Hurley, Chief Dental Officer for England, and Janine Brooks, Lead Clinical Tutor, Law and Ethics, BUOLD University of Bristol and CEO of Dentalia Coaching Company. Their talks highlighted the breadth and variety of dentistry and the need to have both vision and forward planning for a successful and rewarding career.

A host of short breakout sessions then looked at different aspects and career paths in dentistry, including specialisation, oral surgery, working in hospital and community dental services, as well as career paths in general dental practice and private practice.

Chair of the BDA's General Dental Practice Committee, Henrik Overgaard-Nielsen, delivered a well-attended session focusing on dental contract reform, prototypes and dental commissioning. An afternoon plenary session then saw John Makin, Dento-legal Advisor at DDU, give his advice on managing patient expectations to ensure contented patients and a successful career.

Practical advice was also available throughout the day in the popular CV Clinic, with speakers giving up their time to offer one-to-one sessions focusing on getting the all-important CV right.

The busy exhibition hall featured a range of products and services focusing on young dentists' needs, including educational establishments, indemnity providers, financial planning advisors and recruiters. Sponsorship for the event was generously provided by mydentist, Europe's largest dental company.

Experts from BDJ Jobs, the leading dental recruitment website, were also on hand to talk to delegates and give their top tips on searching for opportunities in the current dental jobs market.

Delegates gained 5 hours of verifiable CPD for attending the event.
