England: Contract uplifts confirmed
15 October 2020
Following consultation with the BDA, the Department of Health and Social Care has confirmed that contracts will be uplifted by 2.5 per cent in England. The uplift will be paid in November and backdated to 1 April.
As we stressed at the time the Chancellor announced his deal back in July, an above inflation award represents a bare minimum any government can offer NHS workers. This uplift does not begin to cover the huge increases in expenses practices have faced with PPE and meeting new cross-infection guidelines.
Foundation Dentist salaries will be updated by 2.8 per cent, as will Educational Supervisors’ grants. Yet again FD service costs have been frozen, which we have strongly objected to.
This is only the second consecutive year of above-inflation pay awards for dentists. We remain clear this must now be built on, as part of wider plans to maintain the long-term integrity of the service.
We will continue to campaign on your behalf and will update you when more progress is made.
