The Yorkshire Branch covers East, West and North Yorkshire, including parts of North Lincolnshire and North Humberside.
The Yorkshire Branch supports the local community of dentists by holding regular educational and social events. Members, non-member dentists and DCPs from other areas are welcome to meetings. After qualifying in Leeds in 1995 Mark undertook his VT year in East Ayton just outside of Scarborough and has stayed in this area ever since, predominantly working as an NHS dentist whether as a practice owner in Whitby or as an associate. Mark firmly believes in NHS dentistry which is why he became involved in the LDC and the BDA. He feels positive change only comes about if the right pressure is applied - through unity via the BDA, governments are hearing from us on the ground. It is only through combined national unity that they will listen. Mark encourages colleagues to join the BDA because everyone gains from the work the BDA does.
John qualified in 1980 from Leeds School of Dentistry and worked, until 2022, as a GDP in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, with a special interest in orthodontics. For eight years, John was the senior national dental adviser to the Care Quality Commission, a role he held until March 2023. John was elected by his peers to serve two terms as chair of Dental Practice Committee (2009-2015). During this time, John played a leading role in driving contract reform, first as a member of the NHS Next Stage Review, and then for 11 years (2010-2021) as a member of the National Steering Group for Dental Contract Reform.
Joe is a GDP in Wakefield. He is also Chair Wakefield Local Dental Committee, Yorkshire and Humber Council of LDCs and a member of the General Dental Practice Committee. He feels it is important that all dentists, NHS and private, are represented and supported by the BDA Yorkshire Branch and local Sections throughout their careers.
