Branches and sections

The Chair, with help from the Committee, comes up with the ideas, content and speaker suggestions for the annual event programme and chairs all meetings. Sections don’t have Presidents so the Chair of a Section will usually fill this role locally.

The Secretary is the main point of contact for the Local Services Team and local members, and is responsible for maintaining records, and supporting member engagement. They organise planning meetings, educational and social events, including booking venues and liaising with speakers. The role can be shared across several committee members.

The Treasurer is the primary contact for all financial matters and acts as the link between the local area and the BDA Finance Team. The Treasurer oversees the local area's bank account, arranges payments to speakers and venues, and ensures accurate records of all income and expenditure are maintained.

The role of the Young Dentist Representative provides a unique opportunity to network, share and discuss topics with other colleagues within the area, including other young dentists and those with many years of experience, and help to shape the education programme for the area to appeal to younger dentists.

General committee members help with new ideas, attend committee meetings, and are included in the decision-making. As part of the local team, they also help at educational and social events as required.

Additional committee roles may include Speaker Secretary, Meetings Secretary, Social Secretary, Sponsorship Secretary, Social Media Secretary, Membership Secretary, Young Dentist Representative, or Assistant Treasurer.

Please note that all Committee members need to be BDA members.
