Branches and sections
Branches and sections connect dentists and teams locally, offering a varied programme of education on clinical and general topics as well as social events to network with peers.
We have an active network of 21 branches. Many divided into sections, ensuring representation and opportunity for members to get together locally.
How can I join in?
You’ll automatically be assigned a branch based on your postal address, but you can receive details from other branches or sections, perhaps closer to where you work. The responsibilities of the various roles in our branches and sections are outlined below:
Chair
The Chair, with the help from the Committee, comes up with the ideas, content and speaker suggestions for the Branch/Section event programme for the year and chairs all meetings. Sections don’t have Presidents so the Chair of a Section will usually fill this role locally.
Secretary
The Secretary is responsible for maintaining copies of Branch/Section rules and AGM papers, arranging educational lectures, social events and committee meetings including booking venues, liaising with speakers and the Local Services Team.
Treasurer
The Treasurer looks after the Branch/Section bank account, pays speakers and venues, and ensures an accurate record of the income and expenditure for the Branch/Section is kept. Section Treasurers also prepare and send copies of the accounts/reports to the Branch Treasurer when required.
Young Dentist Representative
The role of the Young Dentist Representative provides a unique opportunity to network, share and discuss topics with other colleagues within the Branch, including other young dentists and those with many years of experience, and help to shape the education programme for the Branch/Section to appeal to younger dentists.
Committee
General committee members help with new ideas, attend committee meetings, and are part of the decision-making team for the Branch/Section. As part of the local team, they also help at CPD events when required.
Additional committee roles may include Sponsorship Secretary, Meetings Secretary, Social Secretary, Social Media Secretary, or Membership Secretary.
Please note that all Committee members and those holding the role of Chair, Secretary, Treasurer or Young Dentist Representative need to be a BDA member.
