What to expect

This lecture will provide an overview of the common oral surgery complications that arise from surgery and how these can be prevented and manged effectively in general dental practice. It will also provide an update on the management of patients on bone modulating agents.

Learning objectives

  • Outline the appropriate ways to assess patients and surgical cases that carry risks of surgical and patient complications
  • Discuss surgical techniques of exodontia to minimise risks of oral antral communication/tuberosity fracture/haemorrhage and how to safely manage these cases in general dental practice
  • Analyse the current status of Bisphosphonates and the management of patients on bone modulating agents.

Meet the speaker

Dipesh Patel 250X250 Dipesh Patel Consultant Oral Surgeon

Dipesh is a Consultant Oral Surgeon at East Surrey Hospital in Redhill. He qualified from King’s College London Dental School and has undertaken oral surgery training at Guy’s Hospital following which he completed his specialist training in Buckinghamshire. Dipesh provides specialist oral surgery services across London and the Home Counties. His main interests are dental alveolar surgery, the orthodontic-oral surgery interface and implant dentistry.

Dipesh has published his work in several peer reviewed journals and has been invited internationally and nationally to present his research within oral surgery. He is also actively involved in teaching postgraduate dental trainees and specialist registrars in oral surgery.
