South Wales Dental Conference - Two days

Liam Addy is a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and has been the lead for Oral Rehabilitation for head and neck patients at Cardiff and Vale for over 15 years. He also lectures on the national Oral Maxillofacial Rehabilitation of Head and Neck Cancer Patients course for StR's every year. Liam is current TPD for Restorative Dentistry, Regional Advisor of Wales for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Deputy Clinical Director at Cardiff Dental Hospital.

Rui Albuquerque is a Consultant in Oral Medicine at Guy’s Hospital, London, where he oversees multiple general oral medicine clinics providing specialist outpatient care for complex oral mucosal diseases. Additionally, he holds the position of Honorary Reader at King’s College London. His research interests include Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders, Oral Cancer, and Facial Pain Disorders, with a particular focus on Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS). Currently, he serves as the coordinator of the e-learning programme on Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders, funded by the European Union (www.OPMDCare.com). ORCID: 0000-0002-1741-8871

Avijit holds a chair in Cariology and Operative Dentistry at King's College London. He is a globally eminent researcher, educator and clinician, within the disciplines of minimum intervention oral care and minimally invasive dentistry. He has written 170 peer-reviewed papers, several internationally respected textbooks, accrued >£2.5 million grant funding and was awarded the internationally prestigious WH Bowen Caries Research Distinguished Scientist Award from IADR, 2022, recognition for his efforts in cariology and operative dentistry research over the past 25 years. He is currently an Hon. Consultant Advisor to the OCDO England.

Shannu is Senior Clinical Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry at the School of Dentistry, Cardiff University. She is the lead for Pastoral care for all UG and PG dental students and DHT students and the lead for Paeds Outreach placements at the University. She is also the lead for the Taking Teeth initiative for widening participation and prevention in community

For the Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust/ HIEW she is Hon consultant in Paediatric dentistry. She provides specialist treatment under local and inhalation sedation; and dental care of medically compromised children under general anaesthesia at the Dental and Children's Hospital for Wales. She is an educational and clinical supervisor to speciality trainees.

Shannu is the President-elect 2024 for the British Society for Paediatric Dentistry (BSPD) and was the Teachers’ Branch -Conference Abstracts and Prizes Committee Representative 2019- 2022.

David is a Seasoned Dental Officer with 20 years’ expertise treating special care adults and children. Wide range of skills demonstrated to treat special care patients, from general anaesthetic and sedation to cognitive behavioural therapy.

Within the last year David has become the Training Programme Director for the Cardiff Dental Core Trainee 1 Scheme. Working as part of the all Wales Dental Core Training team to develop and deliver quality-based training for Dental Core trainees to both national and local standards.

He is the current Chairman of the BDA Welsh Council which provides hands on knowledge and experience of the managerial process, in addition to attending meetings at Welsh Government to represent Dentistry in Wales. He is the previous Chairman of the BDA Welsh Committee for Community Dentistry representing the staff and vulnerable patients of the Welsh CDS.

Published journal articles on research within the fields of paediatric dentistry and dental acupuncture.

Outside of work he regularly teaches postgraduate courses on the management of head and neck pain using acupuncture.

Rhiannon is the President Elect of the BSDHT and Dental Therapist for the South West Cleft Team, BSDHT. She has been a dental hygienist and therapist since 1999 and has worked in numerous settings such as general dental practice, NHS hospitals and University. She was a clinical lecturer for many years and left to take on the role of President for the BSDHT. She works to her full Scope of Practice and still has as much enthusiasm today as she did when she first qualified.

Emily is a Consultant Specialist in Periodontology at Guy's Hospital and Clinical Lecturer at the Faculty of Dentistry, Oral and Craniofacial Sciences, King’s College London. She completed her specialist training in Periodontology at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, and achieved a Masters in Clinical Dentistry from King’s College London and Membership in Periodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh. She continued her passion for academia and was subsequently awarded a PhD in Periodontology from King’s College London. She is the recipient of multiple prestigious research prizes and her work has been published internationally. Her research interests include understanding the pathogenesis of periodontitis, the use of biologics including platelet rich fibrin for periodontal regeneration and the management of Endo-Perio Lesions.

Alyn qualified from Leeds Dental Institute in 1995. After a number of years in general dental practice he undertook postgraduate training in Endodontics at the Eastman Dental Institute and he was awarded an MSc with Distinction in 2009. He was admitted to the GDC Specialist List in Endodontics in 2013.

He was previously the Deputy Director of Endodontic CPD at the Eastman and is currently a Senior Clinical Teaching Fellow and Head of Endodontic teaching at Leeds Dental Institute. He is the immediate Past-President of the British Endodontic Society.

Alyn has undertaken well over 100 hands on teaching days for General Dental Practitioners, as well as regularly speaking at national and international conferences.

He has had numerous articles published in the dental press and wrote the chapter on Managing Endodontic Emergencies in the British Endodontic Society Guidelines to Good Endodontic Practice.
