What to expect

Delegates will learn how sports dentistry has evolved, the role of sports dentists within sports medicine and how research has put sports dentistry on the map. As athletes strive for excellence, their oral health is often forgotten; what can GDPs do about this. Peter Fine will discuss specific athlete experiences and how recent research has changed, helping both elite and recreational athletes.

Meet the speaker

Peter Fine

Following 40 years in general practice, Peter joined UCL Eastman Dental Institute (2008); supporting MSc student research projects. Peter was awarded his PhD in Dental Education in 2017 and became Director of the Restorative Dental Practice programme (2023). Peter developed the MSc in Sports Dentistry-Oral Health in Sport which started in 2018. Peter was awarded the Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Authority (2023) and became a Fellow of General Dental Surgery RCSI in 2023. Peter continues to speak at national and international meetings and publishes regularly. Current research interests are: use of smart mouthguards and AI in dental education.
