What to expect

The aim of this session is to provide an update on current first aid guidelines, safe practices, and recommended responses to common medical emergencies.

Learning objectives

• Recognise the early signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis
• Understand the importance of rapid assessment and escalation
• Demonstrate how to safely administer an auto-injector (e.g., EpiPen, Jext, Emerade) in line with current guidance
• Know what to do after administering an auto-injector, including monitoring and handover to emergency services
• Identify the signs of choking in adults, children, and babies
• Apply the correct sequence of actions for a choking adult
• Apply the correct sequence of actions for a choking baby, recognising the differences in technique and safety considerations
• Understand when and how to escalate if the obstruction does not clear

Sam Kendall is the founder and CEO of Kendall Training, established in 2014 after eight years serving as an Emergency Medical Technician with East Midlands Ambulance Service and the Scottish Ambulance Service.
