We are looking for enthusiastic members to join the Northern Ireland Young Dentist Group committee and the Northern Ireland Branch. A role on the committee is a great way to get involved in the BDA at a local level and to help provide and shape local educational and networking events. It’s also great to have on your CV!

A brief description of the different roles in a committee is available here.

The Young Dentist Group has the support of the centrally-based Local Services team who are on hand to help and advise on any aspect of running the Section and planning events.

Adhesive dentistry in the posterior dentition

Aim

This lecture aims to provide an overview of predictable adhesive dentistry in posterior teeth, focusing on effective rubber dam isolation, matrix selection and placement, contemporary adhesive protocols, and incremental composite placement to optimise contacts, contours, and restoration longevity.

Learning content

This lecture reviews key principles for predictable adhesive restorations in posterior teeth, discussing common challenges in practice and demonstrating how to overcome these with multiple clinical examples, giving clinicians more confidence in placing successful restorations with improved longevity and aesthetics.

  • Explain indications and principles of rubber dam isolation in posterior adhesive dentistry
  • Select and position sectional matrices to create predictable proximal contacts
  • Outline contemporary adhesive protocols for posterior composite restorations
  • Describe incremental composite placement to improve adaptation and restoration longevity.

Endodontics in practice: tips, traps and managing complications

Aim

This lecture aims to help early-career dentists improve the predictability of root canal treatment by recognising common pitfalls, understanding causes of endodontic failure, and learning practical strategies to prevent, identify and manage complications during treatment.

Learning content

This lecture reviews common pitfalls encountered in root canal treatment and provides practical tips to improve clinical outcomes. It will cover diagnosis, access, canal negotiation, working length control, obturation errors, and management of complications such as ledges, perforations, instrument fracture and persistent infection.

  • Identify common diagnostic and technical pitfalls in root canal treatment
  • Apply practical strategies to improve the predictability of endodontic procedures
  • Recognise and manage common intra-operative endodontic complications
  • Implement clinical approaches to reduce the risk of endodontic failure in practice.

Aim
