Meet the speaker

Dr Afzal Haque qualified as a general dentist in 2006 and spent ten years enjoying all aspects of general practice, during which time he developed a particular passion for endodontics.

He went on to complete a Master’s degree in Endodontology at the University of Chester in 2015, graduating with Merit. His commitment to the specialty led him to undertake a three-year full-time Doctorate and specialist training in Endodontics at the University of Liverpool (2016–2019). During this period, Afzal successfully passed the MEndo examination with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and was awarded the degree of Doctor of Dental Science (DDSc) in Endodontics. His doctoral research focused on “The Restoration of the Root-Filled Tooth: A Systematic Review and Survey of General Dental Practitioners.”

As a practice owner and former GDP, Afzal understands first-hand the challenges that general practitioners face in delivering endodontic care in a busy, real-world setting. His approach and mission are to work collaboratively with GDPs — helping to simplify complex endodontic problems, save more teeth, and ultimately deliver the best possible outcomes for patients.

Afzal’s enthusiasm for endodontics continues to thrive through his clinical work and his role in education. He is actively involved in teaching and supervising postgraduate students on the MSc Endodontic Programme at Manchester Dental Hospital, sharing his knowledge and experience to help shape the next generation of endodontists.
