We support dental contract reform in principle, but the proposed 2026 General Dental Service contract model for Wales risks worsening access, morale, and outcomes. There are many elements that need to change, as demonstrated by our 2025 survey of dentists’ opinions.

We outlined our views on the proposed contract in our formal consultation response consultation response, published in June 2025.

As of March 2026, we are still awaiting the final model GDS contract and the Statement of Financial Entitlements. We are aware this unacceptable delay is presenting dilemmas for dentists across Wales and are calling on the Welsh Government to offer a 12 month pause on implementation of the new system.

We will continue to provide information and guidance to members as and when more information is provided from Welsh Government. Please review your email preferences to stay in the know.
