Learning objectives
- Recognise and assess complex medical histories: identify medically complex patients and interpret relevant medical history components that influence dental treatment planning and surgical risk
- Update knowledge on MRONJ-related medications: understand the latest guidance on medications associated with medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ), including bisphosphonates, denosumab, and emerging agents such as antiangiogenics
- Evaluate the implications of corticosteroid therapy: assess the dental and surgical implications of systemic corticosteroid use, including adrenal suppression and delayed wound healing, to safely manage at-risk patients.
- Identify and manage important drug interactions in dental care: recognise significant drug-drug interactions relevant to GDP practice with reference to National Guidelines.
- Apply clinical decision-making strategies in surgical care for complex patients: apply risk assessment tools and referral pathways to safely plan or modify surgical procedures in patients with complex medical profiles.
