What to expect

Reza Aryafar, a highly qualified and experienced Endodontist based in London, will offer an evidence-based overview of the assessment, management, and long-term care of adult patients presenting with dental trauma. Attendees will gain enhanced knowledge, practical skills, and confidence in managing traumatic dental injuries in line with current clinical guidelines. Emphasis will also be placed on fostering excellence in patient communication, meticulous record-keeping, and effective multidisciplinary collaboration to support optimal patient outcomes.

The session will also include:

  • Epidemiology and an overview of adult trauma
  • Classification of dental trauma: fractures, luxation, avulsion, and root injuries
  • Diagnosis and assessment: history-taking, clinical exam, sensibility testing, radiographs, CBCT
  • Immediate and definitive management: splinting, endodontic and restorative considerations, surgical interventions
  • Complications and prognosis: resorption, pulp canal obliteration, ankylosis, long-term outcomes
  • Patient-centred care: communication, consent, pain/anxiety management, medico-legal issues
  • Referral pathways: when to refer, working with endodontists, oral surgeons, periodontists, and restorative dentists
  • Case discussions: practical examples and interactive discussion.

Learning objectives

  • Recognise and classify common types of traumatic dental injuries in adults
  • Apply appropriate diagnostic methods, including sensibility testing and radiographic/CBCT assessment
  • Implement evidence-based acute and definitive management strategies for adult dental trauma, in line with IADT guidelines
  • Anticipate potential complications (pulp necrosis, resorption, ankylosis) and understand their management
  • Develop appropriate patient communication strategies to explain treatment options, risks, prognosis, and follow-up needs.
