What to expect

The aim of this session is to provide delegates with an increased awareness of core legal and ethical obligations relevant to patients who have had treatment abroad or are refusing treatment.

Learning objectives

  • Explain the legal foundations of the duty of care owed by dentists to patients
  • Explain the GDC Standards regarding refusal of care
  • Identify legal and ethical requirements for patient confidentiality and data protection.
  • Recognise common risks associated with refusing treatment, specifically when the patient has had treatment abroad
  • Consider how to deal with concerns and apply strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Demonstrate improved confidence in handling refusal of care scenarios, through real life case examples.
