Learning objectives

Describe the proportion of various generations currently working as dentists in the UK
Recognise the influence of societal changes on different generations’ behaviour
Identify how technological changes (outside and inside dentistry) have directly impacted undergraduates’ experience.
Note how each generation of dentists has had their own (sometimes unrecognised) limitations.

Callum Youngson MBEBDA President

Callum Youngson MBE qualified from Dundee in 1982 and began lecturing at Leeds in 1993, becoming Senior Lecturer/Honorary Consultant and later Head of Conservative Dentistry. He was appointed Professor of Restorative Dentistry at Liverpool in 2004, served as Dean of the Liverpool Dental School from 2008–2018, and chaired the Dental Schools Council from 2014–2017.

He later became Associate Pro Vice Chancellor for Education in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. After retiring from academia and clinical practice in 2021, he continued his long standing interest in dental law and ethics as Chair of the Board of Dental Protection (2017–2024). He was awarded an MBE in 2024 for services to dental education and became BDA President Elect in 2025.

Monument is our nearest metro station, less than one minute walk away.

From Haymarket Metro station, walk down Northumberland Street until you approach Pilgrim Street; look ahead, and you'll see the cinema.

From Central Station, walk up Grainger Street until you reach Grey's Monument. Tyneside Cinema is accessible via High Friar Lane, or Pilgrim street.

By bus or train

Tyneside Cinema is less than 10 minutes walk from the Haymarket and Eldon Square bus stations. It's also accessible by any bus route that goes to the city centre.

If you're arriving via the National Rail Network, Tyneside Cinema is just a 10-minutes walk away from Central Station. Walk up Grainger Street until you reach Grey's Monument. Tyneside Cinema is accessible via High Friar Lane, or Pilgrim street.

By car

If you are driving to Tyneside Cinema, the closest multi-storey car park is John Dobson Street.

The closest Blue Badge parking spaces are Nelson Street and Nun Street. Visit the Newcastle City Council website to find more Blue Badge parking spaces.
