What to expect

Get an understanding of the fundamental principles of endodontic surgery, including apicectomy and learn to identify which cases are suitable for treatment. The session will outline the key steps in the surgical process, offer guidance on when referral is appropriate and give an overview of common flap designs. Explore materials and equipment used in surgical endodontics, with opportunities to reinforce learning through clinical case discussions.

Meet the speaker

Imran Asghar GDP, specialist interest in Endodontics

Imran qualified from Liverpool University in 2011, he went on to work within the Manchester hospital network working in various dental disciplines. Gaining post graduate qualifications in Restorative dentistry, Implantology and Endodontics (MSc), he has worked as a speciality doctor in endodontics at Royal Oldham Hospital, taking on complex referral cases including endodontic surgery, which was the first ever clinical position created at this hospital. Most of his clinical time is spent undertaking endodontic procedures including endodontic surgery.

He was the first ever dentist to be awarded the prestigious BDA Joy Harrild award for young dentists, in addition to being awarded DMG's fast track 4 winner. He has highly collaborated in publications such as Healthy Gums Do matter and Saving Smiles: Trauma guide. He is a trustee of Dental Aid Network (DAN), a dental charity who provide free dental aid across the world.
