What to expect

This two day workshop aims to provide a comprehensive, clinically oriented approach to direct composite restorations from posterior to anterior teeth. Participants will gain a systematic understanding of material selection, isolation, anatomy-driven layering, and finishing protocols to achieve predictable, functional, and aesthetic outcomes in daily practice.

Learning objectives

  • Understand the biological and mechanical principles underlying direct composite restorations
  • Select appropriate composite materials, adhesives, and matrices for posterior and anterior cases
  • Be able to choose the correct equipment to manage common challenges and complex isolation scenarios
  • Perform anatomy-driven posterior restorations with correct occlusal morphology
  • Restore anterior teeth using layering techniques for optimal shade, translucency, and aesthetics in class IV restorations, diastema
  • Execute predictable finishing and polishing protocols to enhance longevity and colour stability
  • Identify and avoid common clinical errors and failure modes in direct composite restorations.

Meet the speaker

Gökhan Dokumacigil Restorative Dentistry Specialist, Istanbul, Assistant Professor, Istanbul Galata University and visiting Professor, University of Lancashire

Gökhan Dokumacigil graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry in 2014 and completed his postgraduate speciality education in restorative dentistry at Marmara University, Istanbul in 2019. His speciality thesis focused on the adhesives.

His clinical expertise includes minimally invasive restorative treatments, endodontic treatments, anterior and posterior direct and indirect restorations, CAD/CAM restorations and microscope-assisted dental procedures. To date, he has led many national and international courses and keynote presentations, regularly delivering hands-on courses on anterior and posterior direct composite restorations, post-endodontic direct and indirect digital restorations, rubber dam isolation and dental photography.

Beyond dentistry, Gökhan has a strong passion for graphic design and 3D animation, which he seamlessly integrates into his presentations through original 3D dental animations.

He currently works as a Restorative Dentistry Specialist at his private clinic in Istanbul and serves as an Assistant Professor at Istanbul Galata University. And he runs his academic works at the University.

Joymon Sasikumar
Clinical Teaching Fellow, Portsmouth Dental Academy and General Practitioner, Chichester

Joy Sasikumar is a private general practice dentist with a strong background in restorative dentistry and endodontics. He works in general practice in Chichester and as a Clinical Teaching Fellow at Portsmouth Dental Academy, routinely using dental dam to deliver predictable restorative and endodontic care. He is completing his postgraduate endodontic training at University of Lancashire and accepts endodontic referrals, Dr. Sasikumar will help to deliver a practical, technique-driven dental dam session focused on skills delegates can immediately implement in general practice.

Shalini Kanagasingam
Senior Clinical Lecturer and Hon. Consultant in Endodontology UHMB NHS Foundation Trust

Shalini obtained the MClinDent in Endodontology with Distinction and Membership in Restorative Dentistry of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2009. She is the Endodontic Lead for the BDS and BDSinternational programmes at the School of Dentistry, University of Lancashire. She is Course Lead for the MSc and DClinDent Endodontology programmes. She also provides private specialist endodontic treatment at Camden Place Dental Practice and Implant Centre in Preston. She is the Deputy Chair of the DentsplySirona PEERS Endodontic group. She is the Chairperson of the BDA Ribble Section, actively organising CPD programmes for the dental team in the Northwest.
