What to expect

Join Afzal Haque for this one-day hands-on workshop which will provide delegates with a practical understanding of contemporary root canal preparation using the EdgeOne and EdgeX7 file systems.

Learning objectives

  • Explain the design, metallurgy and clinical principles behind EdgeOne and EdgeX7 files

  • Select an appropriate instrumentation system according to root canal anatomy and clinical complexity

  • Establish a reproducible glide path and maintain apical patency during canal preparation

  • Use EdgeOne safely and efficiently using a reciprocating instrumentation protocol

  • Use EdgeX7 safely and efficiently using a continuous rotary instrumentation protocol

  • Apply anatomy-driven shaping principles while minimising procedural errors such as transportation, ledging and file separation

  • Integrate instrumentation with an effective irrigation protocol

  • Troubleshoot common difficulties encountered during mechanical root canal preparation.

Meet the speaker

Afzal HaqueSenior Clinical Lecturer in Endodontics

Afzal qualified as a general dentist in 2006 and thoroughly enjoyed this side of the job for 10 years but always had a keen interest in endodontics.

Afzal embarked on a master's degree in endodontics with the University of Chester which he completed in 2015 with merit.

Afzal’s love for endodontics continued to grow and took the plunge and enrolled onto a three-year full-time doctorate degree and specialist training in endodontics at the University of Liverpool from 2016-2019. Here he passed the MEndo speciality examination with the Royal College of Edinburgh and gained a doctor of dental science degree in endodontics from the University of Liverpool with his thesis being ‘Restoration of the root-filled tooth, a systematic review and survey to general dental practitioners'. He has presented his research at the European Society of Endodontology.

He is on the GDC specialist list for endodontics and is owns a private general and specialist endodontic referral practice in Manchester.

Afzal passion for endodontics is further kindled as he teaches and supervises postgraduate students at Manchester Dental Hospital on the MSc endodontic programme as well as mentoring and advising dentists with their day to day endodontic cases.

As Afzal was a general dental practitioner (GDP) working in NHS and private practice for 10 years. He is passionate about making endodontics more predictable for those in general practice.
