What to expect

This lecture will discuss and reflect with the participants in case-based discussions that reflect everyday restorative cases with challenges and successes, highlighting the importance of careful planning and effective communication. The lecture focuses on aligning clinical decisions with patients’ evolving needs and desires, while adapting to changing clinical circumstances.

Learning objectives

  • Apply decision-making frameworks using case-based scenarios to guide restorative choices in general and referral practice settings
  • Evaluate clinical indicators for restorative treatment planning
  • Discuss biological considerations and long-term prognosis of teeth and restorative options
  • Consider case studies with different restorative modalities, including direct and indirect restorations, dentures, bridges and implants in terms of longevity, invasiveness and cost-effectiveness
  • Incorporate patient preferences and other factors into treatment planning, including aesthetic expectations and treatment acceptance.

Meet the speaker

Professor Fadi Jarad Specialist in Restorative Dentistry, Endodontics, Prosthodontics and Periodontics

Professor Fadi Jarad completed his Bachelor's degree in Dental Surgery in 1997. He subsequently relocated to Belfast, completing a PhD from Queen's University Belfast in 2001. He joined the University of Liverpool in 2003 and completed Restorative Specialist training, becoming an honorary consultant in 2012. He was appointed Professor of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Liverpool in 2017. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh and the International Team of Implantology.  

Fadi is the Director of the postgraduate programmes at Liverpool. He is also the Director of Sandstone and Sunlight Dental Practices in the Wirral, providing general and specialist care to the local community. He has clinical and research interests in restorative dentistry and dental trauma and has lectured nationally and internationally in his field.
