Overview

The Employment Rights Act 2025 introduces substantial reforms that will come into effect throughout 2026 and 2027. These changes will affect a wide range of employment rights that apply directly to dental practices, including statutory leave entitlements, statutory sick pay, unfair dismissal rules, equality duties, and the regulation of zero‑hours contracts. As a practice owner it is essential to understand how and when these changes apply so that you can plan ahead and remain compliant.

The legislation received Royal Assent on 18 December 2025, and the implementation timetable has been designed to give employers time to review policies, update contracts, and adjust working practices. Some changes will take effect from April 2026, with additional provisions introduced in October 2026, and a further set of changes scheduled for 2027. Each stage will bring new requirements that dental practices must follow.

We have summarised the key changes and provided a clear framework for when they come into force. As further detail and guidance become available, we will update members and provide practical support, including template documents, updated policy wording and step-by-step advice. Our aim is to ensure that practice owners have the clarity and resources needed to meet the obligations confidently.
