What to expect

This event will give the dental team working in primary dental care a clear understanding of the journey of the HNC patient from diagnosis to functional oral rehabilitation and a clearer understanding of their role within this treatment framework.

Learning objectives

  • Understand the multidisciplinary management of head and neck cancer (HNC), including care pathways across secondary and tertiary services
  • Recognise the oral and quality-of-life impacts of HNC and its treatment, including complications arising from surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy
  • Understand the role of dental professionals in HNC care, including prevention, oral health management, reconstruction, rehabilitation, and long-term patient support.

Meet the speaker

Adrian Pace-BalzanConsultant /Hon Senior Clinical Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry, Training Program Director in Restorative Dentistry SE Scotland, Edinburgh Dental Institute

Mr Adrian Pace-Balzan is a Consultant and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry at the Edinburgh Dental Institute. After graduating from the University of Malta in 1995, he moved to the UK in 2000. He completed specialist training in Restorative Dentistry in Edinburgh, earning multiple postgraduate qualifications, including an MPhil, MClinDent, and Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

He has held various consultant and academic roles across Scotland and currently is TPD for SE Scotland and leads the Oncology Oral Rehabilitation service in Edinburgh.
